TikTok 101

There are so many new apps that are trying to win people’s hearts, and that’s getting harder and harder, especially when we talk about the new generations. But let’s talk about an app that stole their hearts, TikTok.

Launched in 2016 under the name Douyin, merged one year later with the well-know lip-synching app, Musical.ly, TikTok is the short-form video-sharing platform that’s been taking the digital world by storm. And everyone joins this revolution. From brands, vloggers, influencers to normal people.

Does it fit your business? Let’s find out together.

*Gen Z runs the show

Who uses TikTok? Over 800 million people. And more than 40% of the user base is aged between 16-24. Yes, Gen Z runs the show. They consume and share more videos than any other age group. Also, around 2/3’s of users are female.

Just silly videos?

No. People are posting much more than just silly videos. From the possibility of expressing ideas on any topic, to challenges and interactive games, the network offers both the opportunity to socialize and a reference point in the social media for everyone.

But what do the users expect from their favorite brands? Quality content. Short and sweet videos that will make every second count. Authenticity. Try to keep things simple and authentic, not with too many ads on or cuts on the video. Hashtags. Every day, there are new hashtag challenges on TikTok. And people love to be part of them.

Ready. Steady. Go!

In the top ten most popular social media apps around the world, TikTok can feel like a lot when you log in for the first time. But don’t worry, it will get easier. Even though is pretty straightforward to use, you need to take time to understand it. There are a lot of options, like to change the view, video speed, beauty filters, music, and so on. There is also an option for live streaming, so you can interact directly.

After you set up your account, take some time to navigate TikTok. The app is divided in two. The default is “For You”, here, where an algorithmically generated stream of videos will appear. And if you swipe left, you’ll find the second feed – “Following”, which features uploads from people you choose to follow. Now you’re ready to record yourself and share. Don’t forget to use hashtags so people can find your content more easily.

Plus TikTok

Every company, big or small, national or international, should have a social media strategy, and TikTok has the potential to become a valuable part of that, especially if your main customers are part of the young generation. If you’re trying to reach the younger public or develop a more creative approach to advertising, this platform has the potential for some unique and exciting opportunities.

Now that you know more about it, you can give yourself an answer. Is it or is it not for your business? If you’re not sure, we can find out together.
